Pregnant and Lactating Mothers

 

In every 100,000 live births, 359 mothers died in childbirth or due to causes related to pregnancy.

Many pregnant women in Indonesia experiences a lack of protein and micronutrients that can affect the growth and development of the fetus as well as the mother's health. Results of a study conducted by Sarihusada with Southeast Asian Food and Agricultural Science & Technology Center (SEAFAST) in Bogor (2011) found that as many as 1 in 4 women of childbearing age lack protein and multi-micronutrient intake, 6 of 10 pregnant women have protein intake and several micronutrients that are too low, and 1 in 3 breastfeeding women suffer from protein deficiency and multiple micronutrient intake.

Child

The issue of stunting is a serious problem in Indonesia. There are 37.2% of children under the age of five in Indonesia who experiences stunting, which can interfere with their growth process.

Today, nutritional problems in Indonesia are still persistent. Not only issues related to lack of nutrition, but over-nutrition is also a problem. The health research data (Riskesdas) in 2013 showed that the prevalence of obesity in children up-to-the-age of 5 was 11.9% and the prevalence of malnutrition among children under five was 19.6%.

 Special Needs Condition

Low Birth Weight infants (low birth weight) are newborns whose weight at birth were less than 2500 grams. The prevalence of infants with low birth weight in Indonesia has reached 10.2%.
